Pohénégamook - Picard - Saint-Antonin - Wolastokuk Wind Energy Center
Selected by Hydro-Quebec in March 2023, the wind project Pohénégamook - Picard - Saint-Antonin - Wolastokuk (PPAW) will generate 350 MW of clean energy and will contribute to Quebec's energy transition plan. Developed in partnership between Alliance de l'Énergie de l'Est and Invenergy, this project will deliver low-cost wind energy to local communities while keeping the environmental impact at a minimum.
The project is located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region in Quebec, more specifically on the following municipalities' territories: Saint-Antonin in the Rivière-du-Loup regional county; in Pohénégamook; in Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata in the Témiscouata regional county and on the unorganized territory of Picard in the Kamouraska regional county.
Please note that Invenergy and the Alliance de l'énergie de l'Est are preparing for clearing work in preparation for the construction of the Pohénégamook-Picard-Saint-Antonin-Wolastokuk (PPAW) wind project.
This preliminary step, like the project as a whole, is subject to the forthcoming decree and environmental authorizations.
The map presented below corresponds to the most recent update as of September 2024, including work areas for turbine assembly and access roads, 84% of which are existing roads.
We therefore invite you to plan the management of your temporary installations on public land in anticipation of the clearing period scheduled for winter 2025 if they are located in the areas identified on the map, and to remove them if you wish to do so.
More information on upcoming construction phases will be communicated to you over the next few years via our website or newsletter.
The PPAW wind project will employ around 300 workers during construction and is expected to have a team of 20 full-time employees to operate and ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the wind turbines.
Royalties paid to the local communities around wind projects amount to millions of dollars over the course of their operation. The PPAW wind project includes annual payments of $5,700 per Megawatt installed which will total 80M$ in contributions to local municipalities in 30 years of operation (including indexation). Furthermore, as a shareholder of the project, l'Alliance de l'énergie de l'Est and its members will also share the profits generated by the wind farm that will be distributed between said members of the organization. In addition to royalties and profits, PPAW will contribute to the economy and create several good quality jobs both directly and indirectly by employing local suppliers and purchasing goods & services.
